Thursday 21st August 2008.
All went very well on my first day. We were introduced to the faculty and had a tour around the monastery and grounds which was wonderful. We also received a very interesting lecture on the political and cultural history of Nepal – which really helped put things, including events here politically this week, into context. Check out the UK Government (or your home government’s) Travel Advice for Nepal and also the Nepal Times Websites (links below) for up to the minute info before you trave as it is not a complete bed of roses herel:

And register with your home embassy on arrival. Very important!
Namaste!

It all starts tomorrow! Induction week begins this Thursday at the Centre for Buddhist Studies, also called Shedra, at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery here in Boudhanath. If all goes well this will be the first day of nine months, then four years, and then most likely a lifetime’s study…
Hope it goes well, fingers crossed! Wish me luck…

p.s. “First day of school! First day of school!” – Couldn’t resist that one for all the Finding Nemo fans out there… LOL

Ooer, be careful out there. A word of advice, a tip you may not have thought of ‘avoid bombs’, I heard that they are not very friendly, whereever you may be. Seriously, thanks for the links. I have a channel on my freesat box tuned to ntv so I can keep abreast of what is going on out there.
It is great to be reading all your blog entries, and fab that you have now added photos AND videos. I am at work at present so will watch them all with sound when I am next home.
It is Friday lunchtime and I am going straight from work, in Croydon, to Taunton to join Anna and David for the last few days of the Tribe of Doris summer school. I know it won’t be quite the same as being there from the start of the week but it may not be on next year so I figured that 2.5 days is better than none.

Called in at Heaton Road and just seen your blog. Have received last load from Jill** & had coffee with Jill & Len yesterday sitting in the
sun. Everybody asking after you, don’t get lost and keep observing the curfew!
Love you to bits** – still!!
